Ugh. War, indeed.

I get that the whole “shared hate” phenomenon is a thing, and that you’re explaining, not advocating. I also get that having awareness that this kind of predisposition toward cruelty exists in humanity, and recognizing our tendency to feed the beast, so to speak, is important — if not depressing.

I want the people I surround myself with (and myself, of course) to resist those kind of base instincts. We are trying to have a civilization here and are capable of operating at higher levels and overriding our impulses. Let’s find less destructive ways of validating ourselves and bonding with others.

This kind of acknowledgement helps keep us self-aware.
