Thank you for sharing you story. I would imagine that working with autistic HS kids would be really rewarding and that your personal experience would give you a lot of insight to be able to connect with them. Lucky kids.
I’m so sorry to hear about your brother’s struggles and untimely death. That must’ve been very difficult. I relate to your assertion that he understood, even if he couldn’t communicate. My daughter was diagnosed with MR when she was non-verbal. Since she has become verbal, her IQ adjusted upward by 45pts, and I still think it is registering low. It makes sense, because of the comm gap, but I don’t think it’s a true measure of their intellectual capacity.
