Right on.

People evolve and their definitions of what a “friend” is evolves.

At the higher levels, a friend isn’t someone who accepts you “as you are”. IMHO, those friends are selfish because they would rather tell you what you want to hear and leave you stuck rather than point out the flaws in your thinking/behavior and piss you off. That kind of behavior is really about their comfort, not yours.

Real friends are people who actively help you become the person you want to be. If you’re fucking shit up or doing something that will derail your progress, a true friend will risk their emotional comfort (i.e. your pushback) to tell you.

This is literally how we ‘outgrow’ our friends. The better the friend, the more invested they are in your self-actualization because they know that will lead to the most satisfaction in your life. They love you and will sacrifice their comfort to help you succeed. Those people are in it for the long haul.
