I recently ran into the physical therapist who worked with me in the months following my accident. She told me that the day after she discharged me, she got two new clients — husband and wife — who had had separate scooter accidents on the same day. One tore their rotator cuff and one tore their ACL. Both needed surgery.

The logistics of their concurrent recoveries sounded nothing less than nightmarish (small children, time off work, physical limitations, insurance hassles, transportation issues, etc…)

I was her first scooter accident client back in October and she says she has had a steady stream ever since.

I agree that there are too many unknowns to go all in on scooters. The full environmental impact remains to be seen, but there appear to be some significant and quantifiable individual economic and health ramifications right out of the gate.
