I can understand why you might assume that he “can’t” say anything except what I want him to say. Maybe you couldn’t. People project their own perspectives into stories like this, and that makes sense.

The fact is that he rarely says what I want him to say, and when he does, it’s not because I want him to. It’s because it’s true.

That’s why I trust his words. He doesn’t bullshit and he doesn’t blow smoke.

He’d walk away from me in two seconds if I required him to say something dishonest just to placate my ego.
